Let's Chat: Queen Kei with @thecoachingqueen
Luxie Rose: Hello, Queen! I found you on Instagram and immediately fell in love with your feed, I saw a shift in your branding and it really pulled me in. Can you share with my readers a little bit about yourself and what you do?
@TheCoachingQueen: Thank you!! I put so much thought and love into what I post, so it really means a lot when I hear people say that they somehow stumbled upon my IG account, and are enjoying the content! A little bit about me.. I have been a corporate recruiter for three Fortune 100 companies and one MAJOR social media platform. Each of these companies were at some point a “dream job” for me. Something I once thought was “impossible”. Now as a career coach, I help others discover their strengths, how to flex them, and land their dream jobs too! I also offer career coaching services for those that may need someone to help them navigate their internal career transitions and office politics after being hired.
Luxie Rose: You have done interviews for HUGE Fortune 100 companies and probably reviewed countless resumes, what are the top 3 challenges people encounter when writing a good resume and what top three things are employers looking for?
@TheCoachingQueen: This is a GREAT question! After my years of experience, I have reviewed thousands of resumes, and there are common trends that I see when it comes to challenges:
1. Not including relevant experience. I encourage everyone to have multiple copies of their resume, and to tailor each one to the position you are applying for. This will help you be more focused and strategic in your job search, and also increase your odds of getting a call/email requesting an interview. Tailoring your resume to a specific role will force you to include projects and work experience that is relevant to the position. One secret tip: lots of recruiters are now using “Boolean” key word searches when filtering through electronic resumes, so if you have not used the job description as a reference when tailoring your resume, the odds will be even lower for you to stand out as a candidate.
2. Not quantifying key accomplishments/results. I review resumes all the time that have the job description from each of their former employers copied and pasted under the work experience section. A recruiter and hiring manager want to see measurable and quantifiable results. They want to know that they are hiring a “game changer”. Someone who is a high performer (goes above and beyond the task at hand), and has proven results.
3. Too much information (and without any bullet points). It takes an average recruiter 6-10 seconds to quickly look at a resume, and screen for whether or not they want to move forward in the selection process. This means that recruiters are strategically looking for specific candidate qualifications. Make sure that your resume is easy to read, and you don’t include too much unnecessary information. If you are a recent graduate, your resume should be no longer than one page. The only time your resume should exceed one page is if you have a post graduate degree and 5-10+ years of working experience.
Luxie Rose: You are so passionate about coaching others to reach their ultimate success, what drives you to do the work that you do?
@TheCoachingQueen: There is not one person that is exactly like another. We all possess our own individual traits that set us apart from others. I like to call those traits our “superpowers”. We often times are not aware of our strengths, nor do we know how to sell them and capitalize off of our skills and experience. That’s where I come in as a coach. Genuine passion and authenticity is something that comes natural for me. It’s one of my super powers. It took me a while to realize this about myself, and thankfully throughout the years I have had the opportunity to use my strengths to land my dream job over and over again with some really big companies. I want to coach other people to their dream career paths too. My mission is to make my clients feel so confident in their abilities that they never have to question their worth in the work place.
Luxie Rose: What advice do you have for new business coaches that are trying to book those high paying clients?
@TheCoachingQueen: Do not wait around for your ideal client to come to you! Be proactive in your strategy and approach, and go “knocking on their door” for business. Be prepared with your pitch, and the value you will add. This shows persistence, your ability to research, and should make the client feel exclusive in your interest in working with them.
Luxie Rose: How do you market your services?
@TheCoachingQueen: I am a walking brand for my coaching business. I was always taught to wear my “recruiter hat” at all times, and the message has transferred to my coaching as well. I use social media (Instagram) to build a tribe of followers that are interested in career advice and daily motivation. It goes down in the DMs! That’s how most clients initially reach out. I also attend networking events as a form of marketing, as most people know someone who is either currently job searching, or not happy in their career.
Luxie Rose: How can interested clients get in touch with you?
@TheCoachingQueen: Interested clients can simply follow me on Instagram @thecoachingqueen or reach out via email at email@example.com. Our website is currently under construction, but I am still taking on clients, and those following me on social media will be the first to know about website updates, and new product/service offerings.
Luxie Rose: You recently posted, “Don’t let your budget limit your ability to think big.” I absolutely love this because I feel that limiting beliefs keep you from getting where you want to be! Can you break this down for those who may not understand?
@TheCoachingQueen: Absolutely! It’s common for us to limit ourselves to mediocre ideas or opportunities because of what we “don’t have”. Whether it’s money or experience, it’s all about how creative you can be with your approach. If it’s lack of experience that is stopping you from applying for a job, tap into either your internal network at your company to take on additional projects that will give you the experience you need; or reach out to your external network to take a day off and job shadow someone who is working in a position you desire. You can also take on volunteer opportunities at church or for a non-profit, but whatever you do… don’t ever limit yourself because you “don’t have” something. I love the quote, “If you don’t have a seat at the table, build your own table.” We have to be resourceful and resilient in pursuit of our greatest desires.
Luxie Rose: What inspired your entrepreneurial journey?
@TheCoachingQueen: After recruiting for so many years, and working for so many incredible companies, I saw a need for this market. There are so many people that submit 50 job applications a week, and never get a call back. I use to be that person before I started my career in recruiting. I had a spreadsheet that I used to track the positions I was applying for, and after submitting 100+ applications and not hearing anything, I started to reach out for professional help. I had a mentor who was an SVP of recruiting, who sat down and coached me through my job search and resume strategy. After I became more strategic with my approach, I was getting calls for interviews after submitting every application! Now that I have the experience under my belt, I want to help someone else see the same kind of success in their mission. This is what sparked my inspiration, but what keeps it going is the fact that I talk to so many people (clients, friends, and strangers) that feel like they can take on the world after receiving coaching or encouragement, and THAT is why I love what I do. We all have super powers, it just takes a little guidance and encouragement to help us learn how to use them.
Luxie Rose: You express a lot of strength and positivity on your feed. What daily practices or motivating factors keep you feeling inspired?
@TheCoachingQueen: Yes! Optimism is totally my ‘thing”! It’s easy to see the negative aspects of a situation, but it takes true mental strength to overcome the natural instinct to be pessimistic and find the silver lining. Daily, I practice using positive words of affirmation, and notice the shift and increase in positive outcomes. And the same goes for when I speak about or carry negative energy. We attract what we put into the universe. Another thing that continues to keep me feeling inspired is the consistent growth and support I have been seeing with my Instagram account. To read the comments and DMs from followers, friends, and clients gives me the fuel to continue creating meaningful content
Luxie Rose: Thank you so much for your time today. Lastly, from your coaching program, can you give us a sneak peek on the best advice you can give for new entrepreneurs?
@TheCoachingQueen: My best advice for any new entrepreneurs is NOT to quit! We all struggle, especially in the beginning, but with a creative strategy, resilience, and consistency... you will see progress, and the struggle will be so worth it! Keep going, and don't be ashamed to tap into your network or a coach if you need guidance or additional resources.

10 ways to earn passive income online
The internet has become a norm of addiction. It prevents people from doing things that are important while they gloss through web pages upon web pages, one social media app to the next. What if you could actually make money while you surf through the endless pages on the internet? It is 100% possible and today, I will be sharing 10 ways you can make passive income on the internet.
Swagbucks is a social media site where you get paid to do things you would have done for free. From taking surveys to playing video games, Swagbucks pays you for using the website. This is isn’t something that will make you rich overnight since a hundred activity points converts to only one dollar. You can however be sure that you can earn on the side.
You love to shop online? Then this can earn you some extra bucks. You shop and get discounts on everything you buy; the discounts are then converted into cash that you get back in your account at month end. So cool!
Ebates & Dosh are two other cashback apps that allow you to earn while shopping! Seems like a no brainer for me. And when you refer people on either site, you get bonuses put into your account! Dosh is pretty cool since it links your bank card and funds are immediately deposited!
3. Real Estate Crowd Funding
You have a thing for houses but not enough financial strength to meet up? Real estate crowdfunding can help you invest in properties which you co-own with others. You can monitor your investment and watch your portfolio grow. Assets equal wealth in the long run. Get it, girl!
If you are a skilled writer or you can tell excellent stories, rather than shoving your manuscript from one publisher to another, you could self-publish. Services like Amazon would allow you self-publish your book without paying upfront. You will be guaranteed of some extra cash every month depending on your book sales.
The world of freelancing has grown in leaps and bounds but it is taken new entrants. Regardless of your skill set, there is always something you can do. 6. Amazon FBA
If you have always wanted to have your own retail store but you have never gotten to it, this may be your big break. With Amazon FBA, you do not need to have a warehouse or a lot of money in your account. All you need is prior communication with the manufacturers of the product you intend to sell. Amazon provides the warehousing and you run the advertisement.
7. Start a blog
Another means through which you can make passive income is to start a blog. Although it will take consistency and hardwork, over time, your good deeds will pay off. In the beginning, invest 4-5 hours planning out your blog and content for the week, then maybe 2 hours each day promoting and thinking of more amazing content that you could add to it. You would need a fairly strong knowledge of writing if you want to start a blog, but you do not have to be an expert. You learn as you go but at least START.
Check out Siteground to host your blog and monetize it. Avoid any "free" blogging sites if you want to earn any income from blogging.
8. Participate in Market Research
This is one of my favorites. You can earn anywhere from $75 - $300 by participating in a survey, you may have to test out new products coming to market, or give your opinion about medications or your lifestyle. I do one almost every month and its a means to a new outfit, or maybe a trip to the grocery store. Some of the surveys are online only, while others may recommend you going in person. Either way, you're getting paid!

9. Create an online course
Do you have a passion for a thing or do you feel there is something you can do best? You can create an online course about it. Not only do you get to spread your ideas, you earn while you are at it. There are a number of sites that would take you on as a teacher. People are obsessed with others who go live and educate them whether it's on Facebook, Instagram, even Snapchat. Start there and build up trust from your future perspective clients.
10. Invest in peer to peer lending
This form of lending happens via regulated safe websites and you get your interest at the end of the loan duration. It is not without it’s own risk too as it is all virtual.
With ten different means of which you can earn passive income online, it is up to you to start the journey. Earn it!
